At first building your own storage shed seems like it a pretty daunting task, but it really isn't that bad. What with the resources that are available to everyone right now it shouldn't be to hard. You can go on the internet and search for questions, questions for complete beginners or questions for very advanced woodworking. Also almost everyone has a hardware store nearby that will have all the tools and material that you need. Then what else do you need. A blueprint on what to build. This can come in a kit with all the materials, or it can come with a list of materials.

Storage shed kits are great because they have everything you need to make a great storage shed. They have all the materials, the blueprints and usually detailed instructions on how to put it together. These can be great if you aren't very confident in your building skills or you don't want to worry about building it. The downsides are the kit always costs more then buying the raw materials and cutting to fit. If you don't have the tools to cut your own materials then kits are great. Also the storage shed won't be unique. It will be just like everybody elses shed who bought that kit.

The other option is to build it yourself from scratch using only a detailed blueprint. This is great for the more advanced do-it-yourselfer, or for someone who has some experience or knowledge in the subject. The good points are your shed can be unique because you will have more leeway on what to build. Also it will be cheaper, usually about half the price for the kit. The only downside is it will take more time to build and it will be a bigger pain because projects never seem to work out perfectly. You always seem to run into a problem.

The decision between buying a storage shed kit or DIY is up to you. If you are comfortable with woodworking or willing to try, then build one yourself. If not then a storage shed kit is probably for you. You know the saying, "Time Is Money," well one will take more time and the other will take more money.
